I would like to change the location of the Box Drive folder from C:\Users\*User Name*\Box to C:\Box. I understand there is no official option but was curious if anyone had any luck with this. Possibly by changing Registry Keys?

2 years since the developers said that they were considering to implement that feature and still nothing?

Shame on you!

@Juan Camilo Sanchez Arcila:   If you read back through this you will see that they did implement this feature.  More can be found:

Dear ITIOps

Thanks for the information

I am afraid this solution is not even close to solving the problem.

The only thing done was to create a link (.msi executable file that links to the C:/ place where Box was installed). I tested it in windows, and it works nicely. But only works on windows.

I think the users need a real option to determine the location of the installation. That would be helpful, for example, for people working with dual boot Windows/Linux computers (Once Box has not an app for Linux).

Anyways, thanks for the information,

JC.

@Juan Camilo Sanchez Arcila

I tried this and it worked for moving the Box files themselves to another drive. I'm still stress testing it to make sure it works consistently, but so far so good:

If it doesn't work, moving to Dropbox, but I don't want to if I dont have to because I have a LOT of files on Box

@Juan Camilo Sanchez Arcila.  You are correct in that what I provided only supports to Window and Mac users.  There have been many requests for Linux support, but as far as I can tell there is nothing in Box's roadmap.  I have been using another application that will solve the problem for Box access called ExpanDrive (https://www.expandrive.com/) that does support Linux, Windows and Mac.  It allows you to map most all of your cloud drives using one app.

You will never be able to change the location of your box drive (copy or mirror yes but not change)

Dont waste your time guys ive just wasted a day!  😌

I dont think it will ever work as Box has not been built that way and people have been unhappy with this for years

It doesnt matter what you try Box still stores your files on c drive

2 MAIN SUGGESTIONS ABOVE

1) ITIOops suggestion above

https://community.box.com/t5/Deploying-Managing-Box-Drive/Configuring-the-Default-Box-Drive-Folder-Location/ta-p/66248

This just makes a copy of the box folder on the new location and if you delete the original folder say at

c:\users\(youname)\AppData\Local\Box     the new folder wont work

2) Greg Walter above champions

But again this does not work and just moved operation files to the new drive

It would be a great help to all if Box just commented "YOU WILL NEVER BE ABLE TO"

Box here have so many poor unhelpful articles and lack of support it can only be a case of    bye bye box 😌  Shame ...

Ive opened up a new thread on this as this Solved one is quite old and Box has moved on a bit

https://support.box.com/hc/en-us/community/posts/1500001001802-You-will-NEVER-be-able-to-change-the-Box-folder-location-

Hopefully using Box Sync instead of Box Drive will help, as I said on the "NEVER" thread:

I was just struggling with this myself, needing to move from one Windows user account to another (IT guy finally came around to helping fix the spelling of my name on my account) and not being able to see the option that let me do it with the other account.

I was looking at these instructions https://support.box.com/hc/en-us/articles/360043696674-Modifying-the-Location-of-the-Box-Sync-Folder but was trying to install the Box app that showed up when logged in which isn't Box Sync, but "Box-x64.msi" which must be Box Drive.  Finding the BoxSyncSetup.exe did give me the option to select where I wanted it again.

Disappointing 😕 managing spaces should be a basic thing, no?

Same with me.  I'm just using Box because I have to as a member of a community organization and it's very disappointing to have to consume valuable and limited C: drive space for the Box app and Box files.

I started using my F:\ for my box folders but want to now switch to my E:\, seems I won't be able to do it unless I uninstall and reinstall.

@Ahmed, are you saying that if we uninstall we will have the option to choose the directory. I don't remember I was able to.

Sari Alkhatib, I just remembered, they had two apps - Box Drive and Box Sync. Box Sync allowed the option to change your drive location on install while Box Drive is a PoS that sits and eats up space on the C: now. Here's the Box Sync page: Installing Box Sync – Box Support.

Four years later and this simple but crucial problem hasn't been solved yet??

How much does it take to rewrite the code and ALLOW the users to select WHERE their data should be and NOT AUTOMATICALLY select the boot drive??

Even the krapiest little app these days asks your permission AND let you select the destination prior to install!
I am taking my business elsewhere, This is truly pathetic!!

How is this not yet a feature? We need the ability to set our file paths to where we want our files and data stored.
